[Others]  Oral Sedation: What do we use?

Hi Mark,

Can you give me the name of this sedative that you use as oral sedative
other than lorazepam, stronger and faster acting, I think as you mentioned
in lecture?

Also what dosage would be recommended?

Triazolam, in my opinion, is the best oral sedative. However, it is in extreme shortage in pharmacy. They come in pink (.15mg) and blue (.25mg) i think. we give the blue one , crushed and deliver sublingual. NPO 5hrs; no grapefruit juice 5days prior; go over medical; rule out sleep apnea; make sure you monitor HR, BP, O2 level during sedation. keep pt above 90% po2 level; We had an evening SC with this topic. We will do another session in the future. Seems like a popular topic. There's more to consider in oral sedation than people may think. - mark
